Indiana University at Bloomington offers undergraduate degrees in Theatre and Drama, Musical Theatre, and Contemporary Dance. Our graduate programs include M.F.A. degrees in Acting, Directing, Playwriting, and Design and Technology fields. Undergraduate degrees in the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance are designed to expand your practical and theoretical knowledge. Our students enjoy outstanding undergraduate courses in the liberal arts, combined and coordinated with hands-on opportunities in the performing arts. The mission of the Theatre and Drama B.A. degree is to expand your practical and theoretical knowledge through a broad spectrum of outstanding undergraduate courses in the liberal arts, coordinated with hands-on opportunities in the creation of theatre. Our Musical Theatre program trains students for the new era of Broadway performance exemplified by productions such as Hamilton, Dear Evan Hanson, and Come From Away. Our mission is to produce professional musical theatre artists whose voice, acting, and dance training empowers them to be nimble performer-auteurs in a diverse and changing profession.
The M.F.A. program is structured for students who intend to pursue professional careers in theatre as either scholars or artists. At any given time, our department has roughly 55 graduate students and approximately 250 undergraduate majors. These students go on to hold key positions in hundreds of universities and professional theatres throughout the nation. They also excel in related professions such as film and television.
