William Peace University offers a BA in Theatre, a BA in Theatre Education, and a BFA in Musical Theatre.
A BA in Theatre from WPU will open doors for you in the world of professional theatre. One of only a handful of degree programs of its kind in the area, WPU’s core curriculum is focused on acting, history and technical theatre. Electives will allow you to pursue specific interests in more depth. For example, B.A. Theatre students may take musical theatre courses by permission of the instructor. All theatre majors will learn the inner workings of a theatre company first-hand through planning and working backstage; BFA majors will also be required to perform onstage. Theatre majors gain valuable “real-world” experience through theatre internships, and our senior trip to New York will allow you to take part in professional auditions. In addition to graduate study or a career in the arts, the skills you will develop through a WPU Theatre degree translate very well to industries such as media, law, education, government and business and nonprofit management.
William Peace University’s BA in Theatre Education program is the only one of its kind in the Raleigh area. You will study acting, history, technical theatre, education, English and psychology under faculty with lengthy professional, artistic and academic credentials. In addition, valuable outside-the-classroom experiences include required theatre internships, participation in student-run organizations, study abroad opportunities and the annual senior trip to NYC to take part in professional auditions. Whether your post-graduation plans include graduate school or professional theatre, you will develop the tools, skills and connections you need to succeed.
When the stage is calling, William Peace University’s Musical Theatre program will prepare you to answer. With a BFA in Musical Theatre from WPU, you will have the skills and confidence to work in professional theatre or in any number of other careers in which performance skills are an asset. As a Musical Theatre major, you will study under and be mentored by an accomplished faculty and guest artists with impressive academic achievements as well as Broadway, television and film credits. The performance-oriented program is a demanding one, featuring rigorous training in acting, voice, dance, musicianship, history and technical theatre. The curriculum requires theatre internships. In addition, you may choose to study abroad, and our senior trip to New York will give you the opportunity to take part in professional auditions.
