About BOS Musical Theatre Company

We are BOS Musical Theatre Company (formerly Birkdale Orpheus Society). Formed in 1959, on 28th February, the first meeting of the society took place at St. Johns Hall in Wright Street, Southport. A former member, the late Marie Cryer, who later became President of BOS, was often described as a ‘go ahead woman’ – the backbone of the society. She battled against all kinds of ups and downs to help make the Society what it is today and we continue to go from strength to strength.

The society stages two musicals a year (in May and October) at The Little Theatre in Southport. In the past the company has staged shows at venues such as The Southport Arts Centre, Floral Hall Theatre, Garrick Theatre and in the very early days, the Scala Theatre, where it all began with the production of Oklahoma running for a week. We pride ourselves on our high standards and continually strive for excellence. In the past we have staged a wide range of musicals from the traditional blockbuster such as My Fair Lady, Fiddler on the Roof and The Sound of Music to more contemporary shows such as Chess, West Side Story and more recently Disney’s Beauty and the Beast and Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down the Wind. We like to think that we cater for every taste and age so that all will enjoy our productions.
