Theatre Encounter was founded in 2007 with a mandate to produce alternative interpretations of classic plays. Over its history, it has chopped up, re-organized and re-interpreted two productions per year from their home studio, The Abattoir, in Calgary, Alberta.
The company's experimental research branch also devises new, collaboratively created works based on contemporary visual art. The company is based in abstract, non-narrative, movement driven works in styles other than realism.
