The Renegade Arts Co was established as a nonprofit organization in 2012, as a vehicle to assume the assets of the insolvent Vancouver Playhouse Theatre Co. Renegade acquired the invaluable prop collection as well as the scene shop, the studios and many other theatrical assets.
Renegade Arts soon developed into a theatre company of its own; initially coproducing shows like Jesus Christ Superstar, Assassins and Spring Awakening before producing its own shows HAIR, Tommy, Rent & Rock of Ages. The company also developed The Drift Art Exhibition, while providing props, sets, studios and services to many of Vancouver’s theatre, dance, television and film companies.
Renegade Arts Co now occupies 2250 sq ft of studio space in Vancouver’s up-and-coming Marpole district. This new location features dance, theatre and recording studios, as well as The Shop Theatre venue. Renegade props also serves the community with the Playhouse Theatre prop collection.
