About Grambling State University

Welcome to the Department of Performing Arts' web page at Grambling State University! We are delighted that you have taken the time to view our site. We are proud of the legacy and history of the Department of Speech and Theatre here at Grambling State University. Ours is a history guided by principals of honor and truth. We hold fast to the philosophy of our founder, the late Dr. Floyd L. Sandle, who always reminded us that our responsibility in this department was and is to create artists and not merely entertainers.

Dr. Sandle’s message resonates today in our guiding theme: “Preparing Well- Rounded Scholars, Creative Artists, Leaders, and Service Providers.” The Educational Theatre, particularly that of the Historically Black Institution, has provided training and experiences beyond what might be considered the normal scope for students from many diverse backgrounds. Grambling State University has been at the very pinnacle of educational theatre since its evolution.

As we approach our reaffirmation of accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST), and as we embark upon a new page in the annuals of our history at Grambling State University, we invite your continued support in helping the Department of Speech and Theatre touch in a very meaningful way the lives of all mankind. We, especially, want to continue to mold the talents of those young minds who endeavor to bring the printed page to life through their craft.
