Sandstone Summer Theatre was founded in 1969. When Steele High School did not offer students the opportunity to perform in musicals, the Amherst Women's League came together to fulfill that need. Over the years, hundreds of high school students participated in productions otherwise unavailable.
In 1983, we began our Children's Theatre, offering summer performance opportunities for second to eight graders. Every summer, 50-70 students join us for a series of workshops and classes. We perform a musical each year. Students help to construct the set, props, costumes, etc.
While our regular performance space at Marion L. Steele High School was under construction, SST moved to the historic Lorain Palace Theatre for Grease. After spending two years there, we decided to move to the Stocker Center at Lorain County Community College for this upcoming summer's production of Cabaret!
