The Theater of Nations is located in the building of Russia's largest private drama theater, opened by Fedor Korsh in 1885. Over the 130 years of the building’s existence, many important events for the history of theatrical art have happened here, the theater has changed its name, team and creativity several times.
The current stage of development of the Theater of Nations began in 2006 with the arrival of a new team led by the artistic director - People's Artist of Russia, State Prize Laureate Yevgeny Mironov.
Today the Theater of Nations operates according to a system unique to Moscow and Russia, in which there are no full-time acting and creative groups, and each performance is created according to a special system developed separately for the project. The main task of the Theater of Nations is dialogue with the world theater, attracting its best forces to its stage. Nowadays, the theater hosts performances by leading world directors: Thomas Ostermeier, Robert Wilson, Robert Lepage, Alvis Hermanis, Eymuntas Nyakroshyus, Yavor Gyrdev, many of whom are guests of the best theater festivals around the world.
The Theater of Nations also constantly collaborates with Russian directors, including Kirill Serebrennikov, Konstantin Bogomolov, Andrey Moguchy, Philip Grigoryan, Timofey Kulyabin, Dmitry Volkostrelov, Maxim Didenko and others. Regular performances, actors and directors of the theater receive leading theater and film awards in various nominations. Since 2006, a large number of Golden Mask, Crystal Turandot, Nika, Made in Russia, Teffi, and many newspapers and magazines have been won.
Over the past years of work, the main task of the Theater of Nations has been the formation of a theater structure in which there are no boundaries between genres, styles and forms, in connection with which special attention is paid to the Small Stage opened in 2013 - the experimental site of the Theater, on which they realize their projects young Russian directors, choreographers, musicians.
The Theater of Nations is also the founder of the Festival of Theaters of Small Cities of Russia - the only major festival gathering all the important events of the regional Russian theater, on the venues of which significant directing, acting and dramatic works often appear.
