As theatre majors at Chapman, students participate in a strong professional theatre curriculum with high quality productions while enjoying the benefits of a small university. While earning their B.A. in theatre, students gain real-world experience from working onstage and backstage with professional organizations such as Shakespeare Orange County.
The Department of Theatre faculty and staff are dedicated to providing an education with strong professional ethics that empower students to pursue career paths appropriate to their abilities. The theatre department strives for excellence in a professional work environment that is instilled with mutual respect.
The Department of Theatre offers three programs tailored to the specific goals of each student. First, our broad-based BA degree in theatre, with an area of study in theatre technology or theatre studies with an emphasis in performance and directing or dramaturgy, playwriting & literary management. Second, the pre-professional BFA degree in theatre performance, and third, the interdisciplinary BFA in screen acting offered cooperatively with the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. All of the degrees provide students with excellent preparation to attend graduate school or enter the profession directly from college.
