The Theatre faculty are focused on mentoring students in the collaboration, communication, and craft/design skills necessary for success in the profession. Students learn to communicate competently, retrieve information, think critically, analyze and solve problems, as well as see issues from multiple perspectives in the service of changing the world through storytelling.
The Theatre curriculum offers courses for students interested in several career paths: the Associate of Arts in Musical Theatre, the Associate of Arts in Technical Theatre, and the Associate of Arts in Theatre Education. Students in all three programs learn foundational principles, develop skills through hands-on learning in practicums, rehearsals and performances, and perfect practices appropriate to their chosen field, whether onstage, behind-the-scenes, or in the classroom. Performance spaces include a 521-seat proscenium theatre which can be converted into 144-seat black-box configuration, as well as an outdoor enclosed courtyard and open-air amphitheater.
The Theatre department has a long-standing tradition of presenting a season of professional, quality musical and non-musical productions. Our 2019-2020 season offers the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical revue “A GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING", Lerner and Loewe’s beloved classic musical “MY FAIR LADY”, “LITTLE WOMEN: The Broadway Musical” based on the novel by Louisa May Alcott, and Bill Irwin’s zany adaptation of Moliere’s comedy “SCAPIN”.
