Tommy Newman is an American composer, playwright, lyricist and librettist. Originally from Georgia, Newman has dabbled in many styles of musicals including Latin, Pop, Country, and Gospel. He graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Music Education and a minor in Business Administration from Troy University in 2003. In May 2006, Newman graduated from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts with an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing, where he studied under great musical theatre writers such as Jeanine Tesori, William Finn, and Michael John LaChiusa.
Tommy Newman is an ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award winner and a Kennedy Centre ACTF Musical Theatre Award winner. Some of Newman's most notable shows include Band Geeks, 29, and Tinyard Hill. Newman frequently collaborates with fellow NYU Tisch alumni Gaby Alter and Mark Allen. Newman is the head of the musical theatre program at Troy University.
