Biography
Tom Cairns
Tom Cairns is a British director, designer, and librettist. His collaborations with composer Thomas Adès have rapidly brought him to the fore as one of the leading opera directors and librettist of the 21st century. He has directed opera and theatre productions across the UK, and into Europe and the US, working everywhere from the Glyndebourne Festival to the Edinburgh Festival.
In 2004, he directed and designed the sets for the world premiere of Adès's The Tempest, and subsequently collaborated with Adès's to create The Exterminating Angel in 2016.
