Biography
Robert Nemiroff
Robert Nemiroff was an American editor, songwriter, and theatre producer. He was also well-known for being the husband of playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Nemiroff co-wrote the hit song "Cindy, Oh Cindy" (1956) and "Fifteen", the theme for the 1959 movie The World, the Flesh, and the Devil. Nemiroff married Hansberry in 1953 and subsequently separated in 1957, before divorcing in 1962. Hansberry later died from cancer in 1965. During the course of their marriage, Hansberry wrote the groundbreaking play A Raisin in the Sun, which Nemiroff adapted into a Tony Award-winning musical Raisin in 1973. Hansberry appointed Nemiroff her literary executor and he went on to completed her unfinished draft of her play Les Blancs, which premiered on Broadway in 1970.
