Jackie Sibblies Drury is an American playwright based in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from Plainfield, New Jersey, her experience at a multiracial private school, where students often divided themselves by race and class, would influence her later work. She earned a BA in Literature from Yale University and an MFA in Playwriting from Brown University in 2010. Her first play, We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as Southwest Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1884-1915, explores storytelling and race framed by the genocide of the Herero people in Southwest Africa and premiered in 2012 to critical acclaim. In 2019, she won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for her play Fairview, a family drama that explores the interaction between white and black Americans. Other plays include Really and Social Creatures. Her largely ensemble-driven plays use humor, language, and theatricality to ask tough questions about race and identity.
