Kristen Doherty
Kristen Doherty is an internationally produced playwright, theatre director, and drama educator based in Australia. Her plays are widely performed in secondary schools, youth theatre programs, and educational theatre festivals around the world. Known for writing dynamic ensemble-driven scripts for young actors, Doherty’s work combines humour, strong character roles, and theatrical storytelling that appeals to student performers and audiences alike.
Her plays have been staged hundreds of times internationally and have received numerous awards at school theatre festivals and UIL One Act Play competitions across the United States. Popular titles include Queens, The Playhouse, The Marvellous Mellow Melodrama of the Marriage of the Mislaid Minor, The Dream, Bully!, and Ten Minute Macbeth.
In addition to writing, Doherty has extensive experience directing large-scale student productions and delivering theatre workshops in performance, scriptwriting, and theatre-making.
Nine of her plays are published and licensed internationally and are known for flexible casting, strong ensemble work, and engaging roles for young performers.
