Born to a Jewish family in London, Maurice Gran worked as the manager of a Job Centre in Tottenham before turning his hand to comedy writing. Following a chance encounter with comedy writer Barry Took, he and childhood friend Maurice Gran contributed to a radio show for comedian Frankie Howerd. This was the beginning of a lifelong collaboration with Gran and the pair wrote the popular UK sitcoms The New Statesman, Birds of a Feather, and Goodnight Sweetheart. Their theatre works include Dreamboats and Petticoats, Save the Last Dance for Me and Cluedo 2.,
