Sidney Michaels

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, he achieved major success with his breakthrough play Tchin-Tchin (1962), an engaging adaptation of a French comedy that brought him acclaim early in his career.

He followed that with the Pulitzer-nominated Dylan (1964), exploring the complex life of Bob Dylan with emotional nuance and theatrical flair. Michaels’ ability to translate biographical and cultural subjects into vibrant drama continued with Ben Franklin in Paris—a musical for which he wrote the book, further showcasing his lyric and textual versatility.
