Chad Beguelin is an American playwright and lyricist. On Broadway, he is best known for his partnership with lyricist Matthew Sklar. Born in Centralia, Illinois, Beguelin received an MFA from the graduate writing program at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. He had his first big success with The Rhythm Club which was produced at the Signature Theatre, Arlington, Virginia in 2000 and was nominated for a Helen Hayes Award. Beguelin and Sklar teamed up in 2006 to write the stage adaptation of the hit film The Wedding Singer. The show was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Musical and has since proved an international hit. In 2010, the duo wrote the smash hit holiday musical Elf!, which was based on the 2003 film of the same name. The musical ran on Broadway for two Christmas seasons before transferring to the West End in 2015.
In 2011, Beguelin wrote the book and lyrics for the stage adaptation of Aladdin, alongside Alan Menken who wrote the score. The musical opened on Broadway in 2014 and was nominated at the Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score.
Since their success with Elf! and The Wedding Singer, Beguelin and Sklar have since teamed up on Broadway musical The Prom!, which received 7 nominations at the 2019 Tony Awards and won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Musical. The hit musical was turned into a Netflix film adaptation in 2020.
