Biography
Fernanda Coppel
Eight of Fernanda Coppel’s plays have been developed for performance in numerous theaters such as the Lark Play Development Center, Naked Angels, New York Theatre Workshop, and Pregones Theater. Coppel’s works have won the Asuncion Queer Latino Festival at Pregones Theater, the 2012 Helen Merrill Award, NYU's John Holden Award for Playwriting, and the 2012 HOLA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Playwriting. Her most notable work for now, King Liz, was produced at Second Stage Theatre and premiered in 2015. She also cowrote the movie No One Gets Out Alive and has written for many television shows. Fernanda Coppel was born in Mazatlan, Mexico and grew up in San Diego where she currently resides. She graduated with a degree in literature from Merrill College at University of California, Santa Cruz. She is a member of INTAR Theatre’s Maria Irene Fornes Playwrights Lab, The MCC Playwrights’ Coalition, and Old Vic’s US/UK TS Eliot Exchange Program.
