Based in New York City, playwright Lauren Yee is a New Dramatists member and a vibrant voice in American theatre. Her plays have been recognized for their representation of Chinese-American culture and experiences; a review from the Daily Herald about her play King of the Yees stated, "Yee taps into larger ideas and questions of what it means to be authentically Chinese-American." Her style blends realism, fantasy, absurdism, and wit to create compelling stories and characters.

Yee graduated from Yale University in 2007, and then from the University of California, San Diego's MFA program for playwriting. Since then, she has been widely recognized and commissioned by various theatre companies. Yee has won the Doris Duke Artist Award, the Steinberg Playwright Award, the Horton Foote Prize, the Kesselring Prize, the ATCA/Steinberg Award, American Academy of Arts and Letters literature award, and the Francesca Primus Prize. She has been a finalist for the Edward M. Kennedy Prize and the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. She is also a member of Ma-Yi Writers’ Lab, the largest Asian-American resident playwright program.
