Dominique Morisseau is an African-American playwright and actress from Detroit. She gained a BFA in Acting from the University of Michigan and began writing plays while in college. She has stated in interviews that the lack of available roles inspired her to start writing. She worked as a Teaching Artist with City University of New York's Creative Arts Team and received a Playwrights of New York (PoNY) fellowship at the Lark Play Development Center in 2012.

Morisseau is the author of The Detroit Project (A 3-Play Cycle) which includes the following plays: Detroit ’67 (2014), Paradise Blue (2015), and Skeleton Crew (2016). Her other plays include, Follow Me To Nellie’s (2011), Sunset Baby (2013), Blood at the Root (2014), and Pipeline (2017).

Morisseau wrote the book for the 2018 jukebox musical Ain’t Too Proud--The Life and Times of the Temptations. The musical marked her Broadway debut and she became the first African-American woman to be nominated for a Tony Award for the Best Book of a Musical.
