Perhaps most famous for The Lark Ascending and Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, Vaughan Williams was an English composer from the 19th century who was heavily influenced by music from the Tudor period and English folk song. He wrote eight works for stage, including the opera Riders to the Sea, a setting of John Millington Synge's play of the same name, and an operatic retelling of The Merry Wives of Windsor, Sir John in Love.
