Pippo, a young peasant boy who works for wealthy farmer Fabrizio, is constantly plagued by a mischievous magpie. From the very opening of the opera, Pippo is seen trying to capture the magpie, and the magpie loves to tease him by squawking ‘Pippo, Pippo’ before flying away.
