Analysis
Somnus is the god of sleep, or the personification of sleep. His son Morpheus is the bringer of dreams. In Ovid’s Metamorphoses, from which this version of Semele’s story is taken, Somnus lives in a cave which never sees daylight, where the river Lethe flows into a pool.
