ELENA
(Spots old school chum further away in the crowd and quickly approaches her.)
Molly? OMG!!!!! How are you?
(They smile and rush towards one another and hug, rocking from side to side for a long time.)
MOLLY
OK!!!! I moved back home for a while to take care of my mother. She died of cancer.
ELENA
(Hugs her again.)
I’m so sorry Molly. I remember your mother. Oh my God. I’m so sad for you.
MOLLY
It was hard. She suffered at the end but now she’s at peace. She had breast cancer and it spread to the rest of her body before the chemo could do anything to stop it.
ELENA
Be careful to get yourself check every year.
MOLLY
Yes, I know, but she was tested for the gene and she didn’t have it. But I will still watch, I know. How have YOU been? What happened to you?
ELENA
Molly, we lost track of each other. It’s my fault. I’m so sorry. I’ve a lot of explaining to do. I was hoping I’d find you here tonight.
MOLLY
After graduation, you disappeared that summer!!
ELENA
I was holed up pretty much in the house.
MOLLY
(Hands on Elena’s shoulders.)
Why? What happened to you? Elena, I missed you!!!
ELENA
I missed you, too. (sighs) I’ll tell you about it sometimes. Not here Not now. I promise. Give me your phone number. Oh, I can’t believe I found you. I will call you tomorrow. We’ll talk then. And make a date to meet for dinner. OK?
(They exchange phone numbers and plug them into their respective cell phones.)
