PICKWICK (smiling)

And what is this?

WARDLE

Family custom--a branch of mistletoe hung by my own hand.

(With decorum befitting a knight errant, Pickwick takes Marion's hand.)

PICKWICK

What is your name, my dear?

MARION

Marion, Mr. Pickwick.

PICKWICK

Would you do me the honor of joining me under the shade cast by Wardle's greenery?

MARION

Mr. Pickwick, you're making me blush.

(Laughter from all.)

PICKWICK

I assure you I'm harmless...

(looking at her eyes)

but those eyes...an uncomplicated blue...fairy eyes!

May I offer an innocent wink, a peck on the cheek, and the eternal regret that my age makes me more suitable to being your ancestor than your beau?

(Laughter. Marion is embarrassed, but joins Pickwick beneath the mistletoe where he gives her a kiss on the cheek.)
