Overview
Synopsis
Choreographer Bob Fosse was one of the most influential, renowned, and celebrated American theatre artists of the 20th century. His career, spanning nearly four decades, included groundbreaking works of theatre, dance, and film, earning Fosse eight Tony Awards for choreography and an Academy Award for Best Director. Fosse’s innovative and utterly unique style of dance--jazz hands, turned-in knees, bowler hats, gloves--has become a cornerstone of modern musical theatre. Fosse, created by his closest associates and friends, is a celebration of the great artist’s work. Fosse’s original choreography from 13 of his shows is recreated, continuing the legacy of one of the greatest musical theatre artists of all time.

Context
Fosse was conceived by Chet Walker, who served as dance captain in many of Bob Fosse’s shows. Rehearsals began in New York City, where Walker hired dancers to begin restaging some of Fosse’s most iconic choreography. A pre-Broadway tour began in Canada, culminating in a month-long residence at the Toronto Center for the Arts in July 1998. Fosse then transferred to Boston in September, followed by a run in Los Angeles from October through December.
