Matilda JR

The show begins with a group of young school children playing and singing about how wonderful they are, and their parents do not hesitate to chime in with their accolades as well! All children are being doted upon, except young Matilda. Her parents seem to want nothing to do with her (“Miracle”). The scene shifts to Matilda’s home where Mr. Wormwood is sharing an elaborate business scheme that will result in him stealing money from a group of Russian businessmen. Matilda scolds her father claiming that it isn't fair, but Mr. Wormwood snaps back claiming her love of books and reading is unnatural and weird. Matilda doesn’t take a moment to feel sorry for herself, but instead takes matters into her own hands by acting a little naughty and mixing her mother's hair dye into her father's hair tonic (“Naughty”). Her concoction turns her father's hair bright green.
