Schoolhouse Rock Live! takes direct inspiration and all its music from its television predecessor, Schoolhouse Rock. The brainchild of advertising executive David McCall who noticed how much easier it was for his son to memorize television jingles than times tables, Schoolhouse Rock was created to bring a little learning into Saturday morning cartoons. Starting with songs and expanding to animation, McCall and his copywriter George Newall enlisted the help of musicians and animators to bring the educational shorts to life.
