Synopsis

After the Christian knight, Siegfried, answers the Bishop of Trier's call to join the crusade against a Saracen conquest of Europe, he entrusts his wife, Genoveva, to his servant, Golo. Despite Golo's overwhelming desire for her, Genoveva persistently rejects his advances Infuriated by her rejection of him, Golo seeks revenge against Genoveva by staging a trap to discredit her. One night, Golo sneaks Drago, an old steward, into Genoveva's bedroom to fake an adulterous affair that is then witnessed by other servants, brought to the scene by Golo. After hearing about the imagined infidelity, Siegfried commands Golo to put Genoveva to death. In the end, however, Siegfried discover's Golo's treachery and the married couple is happily reconciled.
