Griselidis is a story about a common theme: the problems caused when one makes a deal with the Devil. In this case, the Marquis de Saluzzo decides to go off during the crusades to fight infidels. He is so sure that his wife, Griselidis will stay loyal, that he hands the Devil his wedding ring. Intrigued by the challenge, the Devil puts Griselidis through a series of tests, attempting to make her be unfaithful. When these fail, the Devil steels Griselidis's child. Only after the Marquis returns and he and Griselidis pray to God is the child returned.
