Halcyon Days satirizes the 1983 American invasion of the small island nation of Grenada. In Grenada, Alex, is a medical student attending St. George’s University along with his girlfriend, Linda. Linda works in a local gift shop for a native named Ruby. A CIA agent, Blonigen, comes to Ruby’s store and argues with her on a regular basis. In Washington D.C., Andy Raper, an advisor to the president, tries to stir up support for the upcoming U.S. invasion of Grenada. In particular, he gets help from one Senator, Tommy, and a speech writer, Patricia. One of the other Senators is Eddie, Alex’s father, who does not support the invasion. Blonigen pays Alex to pretend that he is in danger, convincing Eddie to reverse positions. The invasion occurs, and Ruby is killed. Linda and Eddie both chastise Alex for his actions, but Eddie realizes that he too did not do anything to stop the invasion of Grenada when he sees Linda protesting.
