The young princess Iphigenia is being sacrificed to the gods at the hands of her own father, Agamemnon, but before he is able to consummate the act, the goddess Artemis intervenes and replaces the girl with a deer, spiriting her away to the Temple of Artemis in Tauris, where Iphigenia becomes a high priestess.
