Fosse was conceived by Chet Walker, who served as dance captain in many of Bob Fosse’s shows. Rehearsals began in New York City, where Walker hired dancers to begin restaging some of Fosse’s most iconic choreography. A pre-Broadway tour began in Canada, culminating in a month-long residence at the Toronto Center for the Arts in July 1998. Fosse then transferred to Boston in September, followed by a run in Los Angeles from October through December.
Fosse opened on Broadway on January 14, 1999. The production was directed by Richard Maltby Jr. and Ann Reinking, featuring Fosse’s original
